American Cab Co. to Continue Service

American Cab Co. to Continue Service

It was a close call for American Cab, the largest cab service in the Coachella Valley. The cab company could have been shut down Wednesday due to a dispute over its ownership change but a new interim attorney concluded American Cab did not violate any rules.

"It's reassuring that it's water under the bridge now because there are 85 of us who were at risk of losing our jobs," said Peter Kurzon, a cab driver.

But for several months, Kurzon and another 80 plus employees at American Cab were fearful of losing their jobs.

Palm Springs road reopened after four-day storm-related closure

Palm Springs road reopened after four-day storm-related closure

A Valley thoroughfare was back open Wednesday-- after severe winds this weekend forced a four-day closure.

Gene Autry Trail had been closed between Interstate 10 and Vista Chino since Saturday's storm brought wind gusts up to 66mph in Palm Springs, according to the National Weather Service.

Debris, downed power lines, and uprooted trees left the street a mess. Since then, Southern California Edison has been making the necessary repairs to the lines.

Palm Springs police say they were finally able to reopen Gene Autry in both directions Wednesday afternoon around 2 p.m. All but one northbound lane were open as of that time, with no estimate as to when the final lane will reopen.
